Printing problems SOLVED!

If you’re one of those (including ourselves) who have tried to print out pages from our website, only to get a jumble of pictures and text that looks like nothing on earth… fear not! Help is at hand!

Several folk have emailed us saying that either they get a mess, or they can’t print it at all. At best all the pictures are separate, not surrounded by text. To me (Steve) as a typesetter, this has been a real pain in the… um, eye!

However — after several hours of searching online over the past few weeks, I have finally found a pretty good solution: HP Smart Web Printing. This is a really excellent piece of FREE software that allows you (a) to select exactly what area of the page you want to print (so you can leave out unnecessary headings, sidebars, adverts, etc.); and (b) prints or saves it in a form that’s pretty close to what you see on the screen. (This is genuine, we haven’t had a penny from HP!)

So if you’d like to print out any of our pages, I’ve now made PDFs using the HP software for all our major posts and pages: you’ll find a Print button at the bottom. Or you can download the software for yourself — I’m sure you’ll find it very useful for printing other web pages as well. The only drawback is that it does not yet work with Firefox 3.x (which I happen to use). But if you have Internet Explorer you’ll be fine.

See the buttons below, and enjoy!
